In 2001 we gained access to a burned-down building in Old Mesilla, New Mexico. This was the origin of the Wrekage concept. Working quietly, without an audience we cleaned out the debris, swept the floors and painted an entire room inside the burned structure. The painting, somewhat similar to modern graffiti but absent any letters, inspired thoughts of architectural manipulation. We wanted the walls to become part of the painting.
